“There! Indja! Did I ever tell you about the time I …”

(done in my best Commander McBragg [1] voice, of course)

Looks like I’m off to India in October on business.  Both excited and daunted — but most particularly not looking forward a 15 hour flight in coach on Continental from Newark to Mumbai (where we pretty much will be).

I am, fortunately, traveling with some folks who’ve been there on business before, and including one native son, so I’m not tooooooo worried. I am brushing up on my Kipling, though …

Yikes, I thought a 15 hour drive to Florida was bad! Good luck!

I seems to recall the 14 hour flight from LA to Australia in Coach wasn’t really that bad, but it did stop over in Hawaii where we got to stretch our legs for a bit.

Bring good books!

Well, I was discounting the 4 hours from Denver to Newark, so it’s 19 hours all told, with a break about 20% in. Yeesh.

Thank God there’s no smoking.

Good book or twelve, good music, a travel pillow, lots of change for drinks, etc. 🙂

Hope they have some decent movies showing.

Egad, you would have to anaesthetize me to get me on a plane for 19 hours. Looking forward to your posts.

One fellow I worked for came back with wonderful stories and said he had to enter an alternate mental state to calmly accept his impending death when riding in Indian taxis.

The only rule I’ve heard is “Don’t drive yourself.” The secondary rule is “Don’t walk.” So …

As an FYI, Mumbai is +11:30h from Denver. It’s positively antipodal!

No…

It’s Absotively Antidodal. =P

As to the Taxi’s, it sounds like the story of my Dad and Step-mothers trip from Rome to the Airport.

Excuse me, Commander, but I have an appointment…

Just guessing but somewhere on the myriad tubules of the internets there should be good practical advice on surviving long flights. Isometric exercises. Drugs. Something.

Wow, sounds like quite a trip. At least you shouldn’t have to stay within the fences of the compound like when Michelle visited Indonesia to avoid the insurgents! These people are civilized – they drink tea.
