Janet Porter and Louis Farrakhan … strange bedfellows indeed. Hmmmm ….
Porter, of course, is the conservative Christian conspiracist who’s has been banging the drum [1] that swine flu is all trumped up, and intended by folks like Obama [2] to force people into prison camps [3] to get vaccinated, which vaccinations will kill them.
Rev. Farrakhan now has taken up the call [4], proclaiming that, yes, the swine flu vaccine is secretly designed to kill black people [5].
Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan told an audience in Memphis he believes the H1N1 flu vaccine was developed to kill people, a witness said.
[…] “The Earth can’t take 6.5 billion people. We just can’t feed that many. So what are you going to do? Kill as many as you can. We have to develop a science that kills them and makes it look as though they died from some disease,” Farrakhan said, adding that many wise people won’t take the vaccine.
Now, some people might think, “Well, if Louis Farrakhan and Janet Porter are both against it, it must be a good idea.” But that got me to pondering.
Maybe there is a conspiracy.
After all, let’s say you are, um, The Evil Governmental Cabal. You have it in for, let’s say, Right Wing Nuts and the Nation of Islam.
Now, yeah, you could trump up a big fake epidemic in order to force folks to have Evil Deadly Stuff injected into them. But that seems a bit blunt and too prone to backfiring. It requires millions of complicit scientists, health care workers, and politicians around the globe to present a consistent, compelling, fake story about swine flu, for example.
So instead, you take a real epidemic, develop a vaccine for it … and then find a couple of patsies to do your deadly work for you. To wit, you find some people — either mentally unhinged, or else cunningly willing to see people die — to start spreading rumors and shouting from the mountain tops that the pandemic is a hoax and the vaccine is a toxic plot. You get them to scare away the people you’re out to kill from something that would save their lives.
“The life jackets are filled with lead and will drag you to the bottom of the ocean!” “Vitamin C is the supplement of the devil and will sterilize you!” “Don’t touch food! It’s really acid! Only fasting can keep you safe!” “H1N1 vaccines are a plot to poison you!”
And then stand back, and watch the groups you’re out to get die off in the pandemic, while the folks not scared off (your evil accomplices) are saved by the vaccine. Brilliant! Mission accomplished, and you didn’t have to lift a finger against your enemies. They did themselves in.
With a little prompting from your patsies, of course.
Don’t worry, Janet and Louis — your secret is safe with me!

Unrelated to the article, but related to H1N1, and pardon the rant, Dave.
Our local school districts are implementing a vaccination schedule for all the schools in our County. All well and good. My son has Cystic Fibrosis, putting him in a significant risk group for H1N1. The clinic he goes to for his CF won’t be getting the vaccine until early November. (Because the vaccine is being prioritized for the schools) My son’s school doesn’t get the vaccination until November 20th. Other schools in our town are getting shots starting THIS WEEK.
I’ve called the school: “Can I take my son to the other school, he’s high risk.”
“Oh, we’ve been told by the County not to do that, call them.”
I call the county. “Oh no, it’s the school district’s decision. But make sure you fill out your forms. ”
Then I call the district office and, strangely, they’re screening their calls. Grrrrrrr.
Now, I may be an idiot, but I know DAMN well that the district is well aware of all the high risk students in the district. It CANNOT be so hard to contact those families and have them transport the kids to the first clinic.
The kicker, of course, is that H1N1 is absolutely sweeping through local schools. A recent 7&8th grade choir event was missing 42 choir members. Several local football teams have had to forfeit games due to flu decimation (one team only having 5 out of 22 starters healthy enough to report at game time . . .).
Gah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I’d also like to point out that part of my professional duties in State Government I have been involved in Continuance of Operations Planning , and this pandemic response I’m seeing is very poorly conceived and obviously last minute.

I can imagine how frustrating that is, Arty. We’ve seen lots of hits in our schools, too — the HS was close to closure based on the number out, for example.
I’m not at all surprised at the fragmented response, given all the fingers in the pie, the limited resources, etc. Indeed, it’s an effective counter to the (real) conspiracy theorists that it’s being handled in such a disorganized fashion.
