FYI, My RSS feed showed me this twice (I use Google Reader). Could there be something odd on your end that’s posting RSS items twice?

No, it actually posted twice. It does that sometimes, for reasons beyond my technical understanding.

Re: Trek
Have to disagree due to scale of atrocity. Wipe out 99% of a Federation member species and it is not remotely reasonable to expect any mercy whatsoever from military dedicated to protecting the Federation’s people.

Yeah, but it was delivered in a far more glib fashion than just that. And even in that context, Kirk (Prime) would have offered help, before hauling the guy’s ass off to a Federation tribunal.

I’m not sure, since it was a while ago, but I seem to remember attributing the callous nature of Kirk(second)’s response to the fact that Kirk(prime) was older, wiser, and more mature than Kirk(second).

True enough. But, then, that “fresh, exciting, young Kirk” in the reboot was supposed to be part of the charm. So while it may be that his being an asshole is in part because he’s young, he’s also the heroic protagonist and speaks for the movie.

It would be cool if the writers use this to advance Kirk’s character in the next movie.
