But they're not Death Panels when they're from the Right, right?

Remember during the Health Care initiative that the GOP was all atwitter over the (imaginary) threat of "Death Panels," governmental bureaucracies that would judge whether someone was socially worthy of receiving necessary health care? All sorts of wailing and gnashing of teeth ensued over the idea that Evil Government Types would be deciding if Grandma deserved heart surgery.

But how does Ms Bachmann propose to enforce this particular Biblical injunction, that people who don't work shouldn't get social support? Will we have Death Panels of Evil Government Types deciding whether a given applicant has tried hard enough to find a job, or stuck with an intolerable job long enough, or should really have been able to take that job picking strawberries in the field?

Yes, we means-test and evaluate such things today, but Bachmann sounds eager to make this a lot more stringent of a test. And if you don't pass scrutiny … well, are there no workhouses …? (http://wist.info/dickens-charles/15595/) #ddtb

  1. Yes, Avocet. I figure I should start staking out my spot under the nearest underpass…or perhaps she’d prefer I hopped on an ice floe? It would have to happen quick though, with the ice melting and all.

  2. Ice melting? No, no. That’s a liberal myth, remember? There was snow the other day. That proves that climate change is a lie!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go barter a chicken for my groceries. After I get a chicken somehow.

  3. I just love Michelle Bachmann and her idiotic statements from one who has never known real poverty–or understood a science class, if she ever took one.

    1. I really try to avoid covering Bachmann too much — she’s such a fringe lunatic that giving her attention is almost worse than ignoring her completely. But every now and again she says something that catches my eye with a hook, and I have to respond.
