  1. It’s really something quite different than GURPS or HERO. Very focused on the story aspect rather than universal mechanical representation of [insert genre here].

Dave, did you get a copy of FAE as well, or just the big book?

  2. I’m now I’m paranoid that my reply came off snarky.

I’ve been running a game with my seven year old daughter with the rules-as-written, and she gets it all, right from character generation to all available actions in a conflict, which I don’t know if I could have even said about myself and HERO at the height of my supers gaming back in the 90s. 🙂 It’s really a hell of a game. I’d be happy to run something with you and Dave via Hangouts some evening.

  3. Actually, it's the Anti-GURPS (having played with that system back in the day).  While GURPS is highly crunchy, Fate is much more abstract.  I'm not putting points into specific skills that have precisely defined mechanics — I'm doing things like saying my character is "The Meanest-Looking Guy in the Room," then playing (and rolling) against what that means in any given situation.

  4. If there's no opportunity for min/maxing then you'd never get my old group to play it. 🙂 Many a lazy Sunday was spent going through the official Champions villain guides remarking over how inefficient the character builds were.

  5. Heh. There's certainly plenty of opportunity for discussion of how to exploit the various characteristics that are defined, or arguing for/against the difficulty of various feats involved. But the amount of Rules Lawyering per se is fairly minimal.
