Because, you know, THAT MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
In this case, it's asking the odd question "Cheap Gas Hurts Economy?" Which is odd, because Fox News, and the GOP (but I repeat myself) were bitching just a few years ago about expensive gas. And, you know whose fault that was:
_'In 2011, with gas prices rising, Republicans again insisted Obama was doing this on purpose. This odd line was pushed by Haley Barbour and the Koch brothers’ AFP, among others. When prices dropped, the argument went away. Then prices rose again, and the theory made a comeback, with prominent Republicans like Newt Gingrich, former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, and assorted Fox News figures insisting higher gas prices are the “conscious policy of this administration."'
No sign of those accusations now, just general fearmongering about cheap gas hurting the bottom line of the Koch Bros and big oil companies.
Next up: hearing that it's a "conscious policy of this administration" to try to sway the election.

WTF? Fox News wonders if cheap gasoline will hurt the US economy?

MSN is a part of MSNBC, right?
http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/smartspending/why-drop-in-oil-prices-could-squeeze-us-economy/ar-BB97jcd
I'd still provide lower gas prices, though.
No, it isn't. MSNBC stopped being MSNBC back in June of 2012 after NBC bought out MS's half of the partnership.
The article you linked to wasn't written by anyone associated with MSN either. You'll note the prominent AP logo and byline on it.
I could only find a couple of items about low gas prices on NBCNews.com and they both protrayed it as a positive including this video in which it's described as a boost for the economy by a representative from AAA. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/autumn-brings-annual-fall-gas-prices-n222426
Cheap gas isn't hurting my personal economy so FOX can go take a long walk on a short pier. Are they even still considered a source for real news?
Here in Alabama, gas was $2.71 this week at select stations.
The MSN story (nice spot, +Mark Means) is interesting in that it doesn't actually say cheap gas is hurting the economy, but that it may be a symptom of economic problems (weak global economy, strong dollar).
The question is not whether cheap gas hurts the economy, but Fox News' willingness to complain about That Man in the White House letting (or even forcing) gas prices higher when they rise, then turning around and worrying about gas prices going lower, is amusing.
(On the other hand, http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/10/21/real-reason-gas-prices-are-falling/ seems very, very happy about gas prices going own, which has nothing to do with Obama but iss all because of fracking, and it could be even more keen if we deregulated everything.)
I don't believe MSN and MSNBC are related, except that both were originally associated with Microsoft. MSN is MS' news portal site (and is, in this case, quoting an AP story). MSNBC is owned by NBC.

Well, I never said the article was written by anyone at MSN, but they ran the story from the AP. One would assume that they actually read it, right?
+Dave Hill I'm guessing that, when taken in actual context, was probably what the graphic was getting at.
Either way, it took me all of five minutes to find the link explaining the real story behind the graphic and not because of "that man in the White House". While I'm not a fan of Fox News, I do find it ironic that people continue to trash it for "bias" and then think sites like MSNBC are "more reliable".
Either way, it was on MSNBC, so I'm doubting many people saw it, anyway.
I couldn't find anything at FoxNews.com touching on concerns about gas prices. The only thing I found was the opinion piece I linked to.
Again, the story you linked to was on MSN, not MSNBC, so it was likely only seen by people who read the AP feeds, or who use Bing 🙂 .
I don't find MSNBC particularly unbiased. But I think their observation in this case was worthwhile.
The reason no one saw it on MSNBC is because MSNBC doesn't exist anymore which makes it difficult for it to be on MSNBC to begin with.
Um, MSNBC does, in fact, exist. It's just not owned by Microsoft.
Supposedly ISIS is selling 40,000 barrels/day on the black market at $25/barrel.
I'm guessing ISIS is helping drive down the price of oil… and that's why the media is demonizing cheap gas.
who are they tapping from OPEC to pull that off, though?
Why do these sites take a screen shot and comment on that without letting us see what was actually said?
Here's the actual video from Fox News…in case anyone is interested in real-life. http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/3849443059001
+Suzi Erwin That looks to be a different day / different story. Varney' outfit is different. (Also, the article has nothing to do with the question "Cheap Gas Hurts Economy?")
http://newsglobal.us/news/fox-news-stuart-varney-obliterates-rachel-maddows-dishonest-attack-on-their-oil-story
Thanks for the spot, +Bruce Taggart. I would have like to be able to go back over the full segment, as the headline highlighted in the screen caps at the Maddow article comes earlier (?) in the show than Varney's discussion on the topic (unless their back footage linked to about three levels deep below the URL you share excludes any of the chyron and crawls for the normal broadcast).
It does seem, though, that Maddow and her team net misascribed the sentiment that Varney and his guests gave at one point or another (as did the sources they drew from).
(Though Varney and the other folk he quoted did seem to think that there were some potential downsides to the US economy if gas prices dipped much lower, to wit, a reduction in fracking.)
"Misascribed" is a nice way of putting it.
