Tale as Old as Time (Again)

Not sure how I'm feeling about the general concept of (a) Disney re-doing its animation library as live-action films, or (b) Disney doing it to one of my favorites.

That said, what do you mean "Beauty and the Beast" was released almost a quarter of a century ago?! Yeesh.

And that said, I have no idea of Emma Watson can sing, but there's a lot about this casting I like.

  1. LOL Yeah, phrases like quarter of a century should NOT be applied to films I remember from childhood 😛

I don't know if Watson can sing, either, but I've seen her in a few films (not just as Hermione) so I think she can definitely handle the acting part. Make-up and CGI can bring the Beast to life. Gaston could be tricky. They'll need someone who can portray a pompous ass and still be funny about it.

  2. Well, this one was also a stage show, and given that Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, writer on Chicago) is directing, I would figure that's the angle they're taking. We'll see what the song list looks like, if they're including things like "Home" and "If I Can't Love Her."

  3. +Brittany Constable Good point that it's more a screen adaptation of a stage show than of (directly) the animated film. Though I suspect there will be elements of both in there.

The Beast will be an interesting challenge. Going cartoony would be a tough sell, but portrayed realistically might offer up its own challenges in terms of making him a sympathetic character.
