Oh, yeah, as if anyone is interested in Black Widow or the Scarlet Witch

I mean, it's not like anyone's likely to buy an merchandise with them on it, amiright? I mean, boys don't want stuff with pictures of girls on it, and girls (who we don't think will buy anything anyway) will most likely want pictures of stuff with hunky Thor and Cap and those guys, right? I mean, the idea of having women on Avengers merchandise is just crazy talk. I mean, they're lucky we let 'em onto the team in the first place!

  1. Kids are kids! Real kids don't see that there aren't any girls they don't see that there are only boys ,they see superheroes with capes and they have special powers. and I know some of you naysayers out there are going to say well no, kids are observant and they know…and thats true to a point but the truth is, is that this is the kind of crap they hear their parents spewing!! so get off of it, lets let kids be kids and let's keep the "politics "out of it! As for me this movie is going to be awesome!! Lets all enjoy … again Tony Stark I heart you lol take care of each other and have a great week:)

  2. Omg.. she was talking about not taking her kid to go see the movie because there are no quote on quote girls in it.. so before you flex those fingers and type ,you might want to reread what it is you're commenting on okay..just saying.

  3. +Shelly baldwin Just consider me a naysayer, then, but I know kids who have noticed that when there are no girl heroes included in the line-up, esp. if the girl hero is a favorite.

Even if that were not true, as adults we're expected to judge things a bit more critically than kids, and to consider the lessons being taught. And the lesson here seems to be that, even if there are occasional girl heroes, they're not important enough to get merchandise with their images on it.

  4. Well Dave Hill you're psychotic!! you totally misread everything.but let me break it down for you Barney style.. its a movie based off of comic book heroes… last time I checked what age bracket were there trying to reach! there are so many girl Isles as opposed to one little boy section in every toy store! But dont you worry I'm sure they will come out with those little girl makeup sets and posters for them! Give me a break its a movie ! watch it, don't watch it ,..bottom line nobody really cares.

  5. +Luis Candelaria don't worry good sir, it obvious to me, the guy is a creeper! And you're right nobody can read on this post lol take care Luis, and have a fantastic day:) as for the rest of you, im soo over this conversation, take care all… especially Dave hill, who wants to try and play the moral card when he doesn't know what he talking about!

  6. +Shelly baldwin The voices assure me that I'm not psychotic, so don't worry about it.

The demographics around comic books (and comic book movies) is a topic I've some interest in. While I am aware that they target demographic for the movie is probably male (and probably older than the kids who are most likely to have action figures and t-shirts bought for them), the point is that they are being foolish in that in the short and long run. In the short run because there's a large number of girls who would love to bug their parents to buy them a toy or t-shirt with the Black Widow or Scarlet Wtich, and in the long run by alienating older customers who might be enthusiastic about going to see a MCU movie 5-10 years from now.

I'm not particularly worried about aisle count between "girls" and "boys" at the toy store. I'd rather that particular distinction not be a consideration. Toys are toys.

  7. My 5 year old girl was looking through figures at the shop trying to find a Gamora from guardians of the galaxy. There aren't any so she didn't want a Groot either.
Growing up I had a few GI Joe females, not sure why they're not making them now. If they're not as popular just make some, not as many as Thor.

  8. My daughter loves the Black Widow character as she does all female action heroes. But when I take her to a toy store, it's difficult to find any merch for the any female action hero characters. I understand that Disney, and other companies, don't think that there's as much demand for the girl characters but what I don't understand is that, in some cases (Avengers/Guardians Of The Galaxy/Big Hero 6) they're not making any girl character merch at all!! Like the gentleman said above, when I was a kid there were male AND female action figures in the G.I. Joe toy merch. I just thought that maybe, 35 years later, we would see more female action heroes in toys, instead we have less.

  9. Btw, I'm still taking her and her best friend (who happens to be a boy) to see the movie this weekend. What sucks is taking them both to Toy's R Us after the movie. I can definitely get a toy that he wants. But the toy my daughter wants won't be available. I have a feeling she might notice that. I just hope that Disney knows that I would have spent more money on merch IF it was available.

  10. Although i should add that Disney Infinity got it exactly right. When they realized how much of their player base is female, they drastically upped the number of female characters in the game. Black Widow and Gamora are both playable in 2.0 (Black Widow is actually in one of the base sets), and of the Avengers story mode I've played so far, both Wasp and Captain Marvel have appeared as NPCs.

  11. I agree. That's why I'm so shocked by the toy merch for the movie. I really thought that for sure there would be TONS of Black Widow toys and bed sets and cosplay stuff that I could buy my daughter. But no… there's not.. and it's so odd because they (Disney) have been doing a lot more with female characters. I just don't get it.

  12. I seriously hope you’re joking here. Why can’t strong women like Natasha Romanoff and Wanda Maximoff join in on a team of super-powered people? Also, almost everything you’ve said in this paragraph (if you even want to call it that) are all either horrendous stereotypes, utterly sexist, and just downright messed up. Why do you think women below men? What can men do that they can’t? Even though you think girls/women would rather buy the so called “hunky” Thor or Captain America merchandise does not mean that all of them do and/or would. What is wrong with you? If anything, I would rather purchase Black Widow and Scarlet Witch items, for they give women and young girls strength. Boys might want to buy merchandise with the female teammates, and girls might want to as well. So, you sir, have no right to say that they shouldn’t be on the team. You, for a fact, did not let anyone onto the team; they were hand picked and created in a comic book universe. Not. By. You. Honestly, I don’t understand how I’m even the same species as you people…..
