Ooooh, New Mutants: The Movie!

The line-up for the New Mutants movie appears to have been announced, and, really, no big shocks as to who is or isn't included. I could do without Warlock, honestly, but he is a classic character.

The pick of Ilyana (Magik) is a bit more interesting, on a number of accounts. If they are anywhere near canonical than we'll be getting Belasco and the whole "missing seven years" for her — which provides some good bad guy stuff to deal with (the New Mutants doesn't really have good a rogues gallery). Also, she's canonically the little sister of Colossus, most recently seen in Deadpool.

Looking forward to this one. There have been some crappy teen super-hero tales, and some really good ones; I hope this is one of the latter.

NEW MUTANTS line-up revealed, INFINITY WAR films to get name changes
On the eve of the release of Captain America: Civil War (which I reiterate, is great and you should see it), there’s a couple of news tidbits worth talking about:

Over on Instagram, New Mutants director Josh Boone has presumably revealed his team line-up in the following images:

  1. +Laura Ess We have tickets for a Friday showing. The early reviews are very positive (with the possible Avengers 2 caveat of too many characters and too much stuff going on).

As for an adaptation — this is not going to be anything like a re-run of the Marvel comics CW, aside from having Cap and Iron Man headline the opposing sides and there being conflict between "we need more government control of metas" metas and "freeedoooommmm!!: metas. I do not believe we will get Peter Parker outing himself, an artificial Thor killing Giant Man, or Harry Osborne taking over everything after Cap is assassinated by [redacted just in case].

And I don't know that that's a bad thing, since the themes (regulation vs liberty, whom do you trust, etc.) can be explored without that. But we'll see.

  2. Well films and TV by their nature tend to simplify things. I might be biased though in that I saw ALLEGIANT on Tuesday and there was only a superficial resemblance to the book. And that fact that it's "part 1" doesn't make it better.
