On the left is an actual cover for the magazine. On the right, how a graphic designer re-worked it to something a bit more … um … meaningful.
I have no idea which magazine would sell better for tweens and teens. But I do know which one I'd rather see my daughter read. +Kay Hill, what do you think?
(One thing I can assure you — the high school girls I see around my daughter look a lot more like the image on the right than the Photoshopped fashion model on the left. Thank God.)
Appalled Graphic Designer Shows Girls’ Life Magazine What Their Cover Should Look Like
Graphic designer Katherine Young shows Girls’ Life what their magazine cover should look like.
For the record, +Kay Hill deems the "real" cover to be ridonculous, but the "reworked" cover to be part of a surfeit of advice and counsel thrown her direction. She wouldn't buy either of them.
That's what I would have guessed that she would read neither. Both scream, "For the love of God read me!!" Which usually means no one will care.
The only redeeming quality of the one on the left is an image of confidence. But it's very overdone on typical teenager trope headlines. Agree with your daughter, the one on the right is trying too hard.
+Jon Weber It's easy to have an image of confidence when you're professionally made-up to a fare-thee-well. You just paint the confidence on.
