Yet another long-time conservative newspaper — it hasn't supported a Democrat over a Republican since its founding in 1890 — has come out for Hillary Clinton. The editorial lays out a calm case as to why she is a suitable candidate for president, and why Donald Trump is distinctly not. E.g.,
Clinton retains her composure under pressure. She’s tough. She doesn’t back down.
Trump responds to criticism with the petulance of verbal spit wads.'
It has been remarkable the number of long-time media voices for conservatism that have thrown their support behind Clinton. In part this is due to the absolute train wreck of a candidate the GOP has nominated. In part it's because Clinton is more of a centrist than a lot of the screedifying against her makes her out to be.
As with most politics, Clinton's position on a single-axis conservative/liberal line varies depending on the particular issue in play. She is further to the right than I'd prefer, but not so far and in so many things that I can't find her a satisfactory candidate — and the dangers her opponent brings with him seals the deal for me.
Endorsement: Hillary Clinton is the only choice to move America ahead
