These are series that are not officially over, but are on hiatus, extremely
late, the creators are tied up on other projects, etc.
Writer
Kurt Busiek -- ably assisted by Brent Anderson's art and
Alex
Ross'
covers -- put together a city that resembled Marvel's 1960s New York, and
told a series of "Silver Age" tales that focused on the lives of
those who lived there, superhuman and non-. Wonderful stuff,
interrupted first by Busiek's health, and then by the growing demands on
his time on other titles.
No official cancellation yet, but it's been several
months since the last issue. Still, it's worth collecting the
different trade paperbacks of this series. |
Phil
Foglio does hard-boiled detective SF in his own madcap way.
"Always available but never free," Buck's adventures vary from
simple bodyguard to searching for the thieves of the most valuable
creature in the Universe, the Winslow.
Buck's most recent adventures are due to be turned into
a trade paperback in the near future, except that Phil's busy doing Girl
Genius. |
Paul
Chadwick has written and wonderfully drawn several series of stories
about this man who is rebuilt into a rocky cyborg by visiting aliens, and
how he deals with his ongoing life in the "real world." An
interesting examination of alienation, of dealing with troubles, and
celebrity.
Occasional stories are still coming out, but it's been a
while since the last. |
Kevin
Matchstick discovers, to his surprise, that Magic is Real and that his own
aimless life has a destiny that he must either embrace, or watch those
around him be destroyed. Fun, drama, and some good (literal)
cliff-hangers from Matt Wagner.
There have been two 15 issue series of this book, with a
third to follow sometime in the future. There's also talk about the
first series (the better of the two, IMO) being made into a movie. |
"Oh
no, there goes Tokyo!" Xxxenophile was Phil Foglio's
attempt to do hard-core porn comics that were witty and fun and didn't
make you feel scummy. He succeeded admirably, and laughter will
combat other natural reflexes as you go through these collections.
A new issue is supposedly due out in the near
future. |
