The other day I was having a chat with one of our netadmins. He was lamenting the pervasive spread of cell phones, notes that he carries his company-issued one only because the job demands it, and generally shaking his head about the whole gotta-be-accessible paradigm.
Meanwhile, in Japan, leaving your cell phone at home, or letting the battery wear out, is getting to be grounds for ostracism among youth there, who use the devices like a game of “Marco Polo” to zero on in times and places to meet.
I don’t know about that, but I do know that having a couple of them while we were off in Britain was a tremendous convenience. Hell, I wouldn’t have minded having at least one more in the group.
