
Here’s a measure (Homeland Security-style) of perspective on relative threats to public health. It’s a list of dangers to the American public based on deaths 1995-2005.
Of course, one datum missing from the chart is how many more deaths there would be due to terrorist attacks if we weren’t all riled up in fear about terrorist attacks. Answer: we don’t know, and the government (to the extent it could guess) isn’t telling, and to the extent it tells, we tend not to believe.
