Weekend in Review

I’m sure it went somewhere, I’m just not sure where …

No, that’s really not true. But it was a pretty darned busy weekend, full of fun and activity but not a large amount of relaxation.

Friday

The afternoon was actually fairly relaxing. Did some cleaning in the kitchen, preparatory to Saturday, then puttered around, straightening and organizing..

Finally finished getting various graphic novels/trade paperbacks off of stacks on the floor and onto the shelves (preparatory to their being packed away this week while the office begins its morph into a guest room). Meanwhile, I’d culled two full book boxes of TPBs that were (a) duplicates, (b) supplanted by larger and/or more hardcovered editions, or (c) things I knew I was never going to read again.

Those boxes went with me over to Doyce’s in the evening, along with Kitten and a couple of Papa Murphy’s pizzas. New game startup, using TSOY rules, set in an Italianate magic+clanks city. Randy and Margie were both there, too. We did the character gen, then broke to hang out and play Settlers of Catan (which, mirabile dictu, I actually won).

Randy and Doyce got first crack at the book boxes of stuff, and cleaned out about half the load.

Saturday

We slept in a little bit — no Kitten classes — but once we were up, we were up.

Hungry Flock dinner being held at our house that night, you see — that’s the monthly (except in the summer) rotating church dinner/fellowship thang we do. Loads of fun, but, of course, being at our house meant the place had to sparkle, which it most assuredly was not ready to do.

So, after several hours of sorting, putting away, cleaning dusting, vacuuming, etc. — interspersed with a Costco run — we were finally ready. A good dozen people all told, split between the dining room and breakfast room tables. Margie prepped a yummy pork loin roast, etc. and so on. A good group, too, including some who hung out for a while afterwards. A very late night/early morning, but well worth it.

Plus — the house is clean for Jim & Ginger’s arrival, not to mention Thanksgiving next week. Huzzah!

Sunday

Up seemingly way too early. Off to church, then brunch. Hopped over to the mall at that point, went to Papyrus, and picked up our Christmas cards for the year. Hurrah! Did some other light browsing, then hustled home.

A short bit of flurried clean-up, then off to Doyce’s again for Dogs in the Vineyard. Well, eventually. We were a scosh late, so ended up playing a round of “Bang!” the 20-40 minute card game that lasted more like 60-90 (some rules learning slowing us down to start off with, then some virtual deadlocking between Jackie and Randy). Still fun.

Eventually got started with DitV, which took us another little while to get back up to speed on. In the end, though, we’d quelled the mob, gunned down the demon, and gotten the young folk married, complete with other bits of frontier justice. Fun times — but 9 p.m. by then, so hurried home to get Kitten to bed.

Then, while Margie made a cake for the office (?) today, plopped on the sofa and watched Daily Show/Colbert Report reruns, then crashed.

A long weekend, but a good one. Just wish there’d been a bit of “down time” in there somewhere.
