Even if — even if — one grants the necessity of doing in 2003 what Cheney considered a potentially grave error in 1994, to do so with so little attention or planning for any of the factors that Cheney himself identified less than a decade earlier, when Cheney himself was very clearly one of the key players in the Iraq War run-up, borders (at least) on criminally negligent.

So we see that they were well aware of what was likely to happen.
The pre-Iraq Afghanistan mission was done quite well. So well that it’s hard to see how the same people could have been in charge for Iraq.
Barring mass chemical lobotomies via al-Qaida agents at the White House…

The War on Terror was/is just a front for the power grab at home. Effed up on purpose (mostly… largely on purpose) to give them time to do all they have done. To arrange for the “permanent Republican majority” Rove talked about — fallen by the wayside now unless they really have done nasty things with the electronic voting machines.
