After waxing eloquently nostalgic over Rocket Robin Hood over at Steve’s site, imagine my … gah! … amazement over the announcement of RRH coming to DVD!
In!
…. Canada!
*sigh*
Though probably just as well. I fully admit that my Pavlovian attraction for RRH is a childhood memory that would not bear actual exposure to oxygen or the present — regardless of the involvement of Ralph Bakshi in the whole thing.
“As we sally forth against the foe
To the sound of the galaxy horn …”
*sigh*
Ummm….
Canada *is* region 1, so it will play in your Player if you really want it. See if Amazon.ca has it.
Yep, They do.
OMG! Rocket Robin Hood has been a family source of amusement ever since we caught it during our trip to Canada 3 years ago. We were punchy from being on the go for 3 days straight, and we just sat there giggling hysterically at it. There was an old prospector character included for some unknown reason in the middle of the Robin Hood gang (think Walter Huston in Treasure of the Sierra Madre) that kept saying “But how??” to everyting. Just saying “But how??” in that voice still elicits stupid chuckles.
I think (and you’re relying on 30-year-old memories here) that might have been the Cook.
And, yes, BD, it’s on Amazon.ca — which, yes, is Region 1, but means all the registration and all that …
… yeah, I’m making excuses.
Okay … with it being priced in CAD, it’s too expensive for my USD budget, how’s that?
Hmmm….
Well, $63 (UDS = CND) for both disks might be a bit over the christmas budget….but it would work out well for a christmas/birthday combo for whoever draws your name. ;P
I … um … *really* don’t think that I could get as much enjoyment for that money as I do just out of plain ol’ YouTube.
Ahhh, okay. 🙂
Okay, seeing as I’m almost exactly the same age as ***Dave, how is it that I’ve never heard of this show, much less seen it?
Dave, were you in CA when you watched it? I don’t remember it being on any of the local stations.
I believe so — it was a mid-late 60s show, Canadian, so almost certainly some place like Channel 13 in SoCal. (It’s just possible I watched it in NoCal, whence we moved in ’68).
I do distinctly recall it was off the beaten path, channel/time-wise. But I just freaking loved it, and my mental images of most of Robin’s men, et al., were deeply influenced by it.
I too grew up in SoCal and I’ve never heard of it. Though I a younger.
