Movin’, movin’, movin’ …

The week’s schedule just got accelerated a scosh, as the “HR is going to be expanding and doing tons of interviews imminently so they need to take over the IT management suite” move has gotten pushed up to (wait for it) Friday.  Which, in turn, means that I need to pack my stuff today/tomorrow (and possibly work from the office on Wednesday instead of being at home before my flight).

And where am I going in leaving my lovely corner mini-office on the first floor, where I’ve been since April 2006, where I can watch the weather and enjoy the isolation and ambiance?

Well, “temporarily” the three IT managers will be timesharing two offices over where HR used to be.  Which are two adjoining offices, with a door between them.  With windows, yes, but only next to the doors, looking out on the corridors.  No external windows at all.

Buried alive … buried alive …

Both hopefully and annoyingly, this is just an interim move.  We’re probably expanding to an extra building in January because of some new work (see above), which will free up more space int he building, and so mean we can move out the crypts into something more reasonable.

Maybe.  But, in the meantime, it means I can’t really unpack much of anything.  Which makes the crypt (or perhaps an Egyptian tomb) an even better analogy

On the bright side, I won’t be in a “fish bowl” for anyone walking to the front steps, especially when it’s dark out.  On the down side, it’s a much more populous area, which means that when I’m on the phone, I’ll need to have my door closed.  (Cue crypt music some more.)

*sigh*

  1. Hey, he’s not in *my* department … 🙂

Actually, at the present time, there are some chairs and a large freestanding printer rolled into Greg’s cube, so the illusion from the “inside” is broken, but from the outside it still looks good.

I’ll still have to wander by Greg’s cube in order to get/make coffee in the morning, so it’s not a big deal.

    The plot has thickened somewhat.

There’s a possibility that I could get a nice large office on the northern wall of the building with a nice window outside. That would be, well, nice.

It’s empty right now — in fact, another one emptying next to it. The local IT manager is wangling with the business group that “owns” it to see if I could end up in there. I’d be nestled between two VPs so I’d have to watch my volume level, and the desk clutter, but it would be very nice.

Right now, I give that a 30-40% chance.

As it stand, I have my office 95% packed. I’ll do that last bit tomorrow, and move the boxes over to a staging area in the crypt. I’ll work from home Wednesday — and if the final destination isn’t settled by after Thanksgiving, I’ll work from home a day and a half that week before heading out to Pasadena for the next business trip. Hopefully by then I’ll know where I’m going (sufficiently to be able to unpack some stuff).

  2. Completely unrelated, my replacement chair (ergo enough to get my arms propped up high enough) has broken (the back is basically falling off), so I also ordered a new, nice chair today.
