Many of my students seem to have a similarly powerful ability to misunderstand the clearest instructions. Even after I have said at least four times that students must cite their sources (on the syllabus and at least three times in class), including an explicit statement that they need to provide a citation even if they don’t quote the source and/or it is an assigned source, my students still turn in papers without citations and then claim that they didn’t know that it was required. I don’t think I should even have to tell them: they should have learned that in high school.
Even scarier is the fact that some people fail to cite their sources a second time, even after having gotten the intentionally harsh penalty the first time.
I think the problem is that people don’t know how to listen and remember what they have been told.
No, the problem is that the vast sea of Humanity, as an organism, is incredibly moronic.
Ain’t I full of positive attitude this morning?
It’s partially a matter of simple dunderheadedness, but it’s also a matter of prioritization. Which is why it’s so maddening when it doesn’t happen.
