Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Asking for Votes without Having Voted – The Washington Monthly
- CitizenLink: Friday Five: Dr. Al Mohler – “Liberal theology is taking God’s name in vain.” Gee, thanks, Dr. Al. Oh, and by the way, for something that is the be-all and end-all of Christianity, (a) the Ten Commandments are actually an Old Testament item, and (b) Jesus doesn’t go out of his way to place any focus on them, certainly not in any legalistic fashion. It seems to me, in fact, that Jesus teaching of the Greatest Commandments — to love the Lord God and to love your neighbor — can be seen as both a recap of the 10C and a tremendous expansion of them beyond Pharisee-like focus on the actual words of the Decalog. On the other hand, I do like the sentiment that “before we get too involved in battles over where they should be hung, we better make sure that for those who are of Christ, they’re hanging in our hearts first and foremost.”
- Best of Parent Hacks: Halloween tips – Some clever ideas here.
- Google Docs Become More Student-Friendly – Very clever (and useful) on Google’s part.
- Honegar And 29 Other Dumb Inventions From The Mid-1900s [Bad Ideas] – Meh. Some of these are “dumb,” some are clearly publicity stunts, and some are just unsuccessful steps along the technological ladder.
- Indiana prosecutor says she’s duty bound to prosecute grandma who bought cold medicine – Ah, Zero Tolerance – is there no stupidity you cannot shock us with? “Because the best way to prevent meth-addicted babies is to arrest women who buy cold medication for their grandchildren.”

- ALA | Banned Books Week – Read a Banned Book today.
- 10 Hilarious Twitter Parody Videos – Ha! Fun way to spend a good half hour or more.
- Google Docs Viewer is a Tool You Should Bookmark! – This is pretty darned clever — essentially allowing you to (a) embed Google Docs Viewer into a link on your post, and (b) use it yourself in lieu of an external app.
- Right-Wing Conference Tells Activists To Get Their Guns Ready For ‘Bloody Battle’ With Obama The Nazi – “Buy guns! Buy ammo!” Yeah, that should end well.
- Texas schools move away from abstinence-only education: We don’t think it’s working. – Learning can, possibly, occur.
- With Healthcare Reform, Obama Is Re-Enacting Slavery – Wow. The Crazy just burns here. And ends with a suitably Ragnarokian note at end.
- 413 – The McFarthest Place: 145 Mi to the Nearest Big Mac – Hmmm … can we do a correlation with obesity and health here?
- New Nick – I will most miss the old Nick Jr icon, which actually had a variety of adult/child animal combos. The new logo is nice, but not very distinctive. (Of course, I still miss the “Nick-nick-nicknick-nicknick-nick-nick … Nicklodeon” stinger.)
- I still cant “Like” an Item from Google Reader Mobile… I type – Note that if you don’t have an iPhone or an Android phone, you can’t do even that.

- Secret Service probing Facebook poll on Obama – And it’s appropriate that they do. (I’d agree with a similar poll about Dubya while he was in office.)

- [Guest Post by leguru] Blasphemy Day – I don’t see blasphemy for the same if being shocking or titillating to be particularly praiseworthy, any more than a 9 year old farting for the sake of making all his/her friends giggle. To the extent, though, that “Blasphemy Day” points out places wher our law remains less than coherent in the freedom of conscience or the separation of church and state, I am for it.
