Unblogged Bits (Wed. 20-Oct-10 1130)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Lies, Damned Lies, and Medical Science – Magazine – The Atlantic – “We could solve much of the wrongness problem, Ioannidis says, if the world simply stopped expecting scientists to be right. That’s because being wrong in science is fine, and even necessary—as long as scientists recognize that they blew it, report their mistake openly instead of disguising it as a success, and then move on to the next thing, until they come up with the very occasional genuine breakthrough. But as long as careers remain contingent on producing a stream of research that’s dressed up to seem more right than it is, scientists will keep delivering exactly that.” Fascinating article.
  2. YouTube – 25 random facts about Hugh Laurie – I’ve always enjoyed Hugh Laurie’s work — and watching this makes me want to go back and catch up on the past few seasons of “House.”
  3. A Reminder – The Founders were most concerned, perhaps, with different denominations of Christianity (which often treated each other as heretics and members of a different religion), but there was certainly recognition at the same time of non-Christian faiths. Indeed, the Founders debated a lot whether this sort of language could even allow (gasp) Catholics, or Deists, or even Atheists to hold office, and arguments against such things were part of the Anti-Federalist movement that argued against adopting the Constitution.
  4. Unintended Acceleration In Toyotas: The Ghost In The Data | The Truth About Cars – Some interesting data here.

  1. RE #2: Yes, one of the reasons they added Bertie Wooster playing Piano to Wooster & Jeeves is because Hugh Laurie could play it….along with every other instrument that Bertie played through out the book series.

To me, those were some fun scenes with some amusing period period songs.
