Unblogged Bits (Tue. 2-Nov-10 2330)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. Sheldon Whitehouse Analyzes “Judicial Activism” – In case anyone thought that Roberts, et al., weren’t “activists.” They’re just activists whose activism the Right likes.
  2. The Only Election Analysis You Need – Something to be said for this very simple, but compelling, analysis — both in the conditions on the ground and, perhaps, how they could have been avoided.
  3. Oh That’s A Good Sign | Talking Points Memo – And so it begins.
  4. Obama beating Reagan? – The Hill’s Pundits Blogsnork
  5. No quibbling: Huge win for Republicans – “Here’s hoping that Dems take a lesson from the GOP’s refusal to compromise and refusal to tack to the ‘center’ as they orchestrated their comeback.”
  6. About that Franken talking point – Yes, well, never let “facts” get in the way of “base-enraging donation-generating fear tactics.”
  7. Republicans take House, Dems keep Senate – Boing Boing – Note, of course, that with “only” 53 (let’s say) Dems in the Senate, and assuming no formal defections to the GOP, not only is nigh-impossible to overcome anything approaching a filibuster, but the majority arguably is now even more the GOP + Blue Dog Dems. Which means, at best, Reid will be trying to just keep the Senate from passing whatever claptrap emanates from the House (which, some might argue, he was already doing the past two years).
  8. I, For One, Welcome Our New X Overlords – I have to copy down that Kent Brockman quote …
  9. Wallace and Gromit as minions of the Anti-Christ – Wow. Sounds like something that would happen (and likely will, eventually, if it hasn’t already) in the US. Thank heavens we don’t have an Archbishop in charge of the national religion for the nuts to appeal to.
  10. Three Electoral Reforms That Would Improve And Enrich Our System Of Representative Democracy – #1 always sounds good, but money always finds a way. #2 would be interesting to try (as some countries and a few US municipalities have found). #3 sounds like a no-brainer, but Big Business has every reason to do everything they can to keep it from happening, from the cost of another national holiday to the idea that working-class voters would be able to actually, y’know, go out and vote easily.
