Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- Outrage of the Week: Chess Players Ticketed for Being Near Playground – Yeesh.
- ‘Usagi Yojimbo: The Special Edition’ Celebrates 25 Years of Rabbit Samurai [Exclusive Preview] – ComicsAlliance | Comics culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviews – My early collections are in paperback. I think an upgrade to hardcover is well in order for this fabulous series.
- British Knights Shirts Are Here! Tea And Crumpets For All! – There was only one of the knights shown who I didn’t recognize right off the bat. Fun.
- The Beatles: Meh to iTunes, I’m going to Amazon – Yup.
- The latest (and probably) final attempt to extend jobless aid – “At this point, you might be thinking, ‘But wait, won’t this be awful for the economy? If more than 1.2 million people lose their benefits, which they invariably spend, won’t this mean hardship for those families compounded by less economic activity for everyone else?’ And if that is what you’re thinking, you probably aren’t going to enjoy the next Congress very much.” Disgusting.
- New Report Reveals Health Insurance Industry Pumped $86 Million Into The U.S. Chamber To Kill Reform – Yeah, there’s a shocker.
- Bachmann: Tax Cuts For Wealthy Must Be Extended, But Not If Tied To ‘Massive Spending’ On Unemployed – National debt-creating benefits for me, but not for thee!
- Gengineered concrete-patching bacteria: BacillaFilla – Interesting. I’m glad it has a genetic self-destruct, but …
- Google CEO: Android Is for Touch, Chrome OS Is for Keyboards – This doesn’t completely make sense to me — keyboard input seems peripheral (so to speak) from core OS functions. If we want to talk about scalability or threadedness or UI/usability distinctions, that makes sense, but … keyboarding being the distinction?
- Prepare For the Most Mind Meltingly Realistic CGI You’ve Ever Seen – Okay, that’s just SCARY good. And beautiful.
- Google awarded a patent for thumbnails in search results. Lawsuits imminent? [TNW Google] – It will be interesting to see how Google handles this. Unfortunately, lack of “vigorous pursuit” in patents can often lead to them being rendered legally meaningless. On the other hand, not only is this a goofy patent (sigh), but hardly something key to Google (or anyone else’s) search strategy. I suspect Google will make a grand gesture and formally declare it will not enforce this patent, gaining more in good will than they ever could by pursuing it.
- Your Top 10 World Heritage Sites – Cool.
- Can’t Christians Just Admit Anne Frank is in Hell? – I can’t say for certain, because I am not (thankfully) God. But I don’t believe she is in Hell because she did not “accept Jesus Christ into her heart.” And, yes, some people calling themselves Christian will believe I am going to hell for holding such a sentiment.
