Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….
- The new litmus test – “But that was before the GOP fell off the right-wing cliff. Now every Republican who was even remotely sensible on this ‘better have an explanation, an excuse or a mea culpa for why this won’t happen again.'”
- Scalia: Women Don’t Have Constitutional Protection Against Discrimination – So, despite the plain language of the 14th Amendment, Scalia believes that those who the writers at the time would not have thought of as covered by it (Women, Gays … Jews? Latinos? Atheists?) are not. Presumably he thinks the same about the other civil rights amendments — the First Amendment would only apply to religions that the Founders would agree should be free to practice, to political speech the Founders would have recognized as such, etc. Lovely.
- Fischer Says Leading GOP Presidential Hopefuls All Fall Short – I’m sure Fischer would be more than happy to be recruited to the cause …
- Lindsey Graham Threatens To Hold Debt Ceiling Vote Hostage For Regressive Social Security Cuts – And the plan becomes clearer. They aren’t crazy whackos out to blow up stuff for no good reason; they are just playing as crazy whackos in order to extort what they can’t get through normal legislative channels.
- North American English Dialects – I need to examine this in more detail, but it looks very cool.
