So in my copious free time, I run a website for collecting quotations. Or, rather, a website where I indulge that hobby of mine — WIST (Wish I’d Said That). I just did my more-or-less annual review of numbers and what quotes are most popular … and it’s remarkable to me that I’m at over 9,000 quote collected (and researched for sourcing).
Actually what’s remarkable to me is how consistent I’ve been at adding to it for the past several years.
It’s a never-ending activity, but most good hobbies are.
Sheesh, you’re like an onion; layer upon layer… What a great resource…
WIST – is that an endorsement? Do you really wish you’d said all nine thousand quotes?
Well, more a clever acronym than anything else. I’d say the quotes are broken out by:
95% Wish I’d Said That (i.e., well-said, and something I agree with).
4.5% Wish, If I Believed That, I Would Have Been Clever Enough To Say That In Just That Way.
0.5% OMG, Can You Believe Someone Said That?
Both because of the name, and because I give consideration to each of the quotes I throw up there, they tend to be things I agree with. But (as the About page explains in dreary length), I don’t necessarily agree with everything I quote.
