They’ve shrouded all the diagonal crossing lights in downtown Denver, and have started restriping the crosswalk lines. No more Barnes Dance.
UPDATE: I have no idea if people were confused or simply didn’t spot the autocorrect/misspelling of “Hypotenuse” as “Hypnotenuse.” Corrected.

Especially since other countries are adopting The Barnes Dance to reduce congestion and to aid pedestrians. I chalk it up to the same genius’ that got rid of our interurban trolly system in the 50s that we are spending millions of dollars to replace now.
My understanding is that it’s being driven by traffic timing — primarily with the lengthening of peak time light rail from three cars to four cars (which is a Good Thing), as well as some new federal guidelines on lengthening walk signals (which would assist pedestrians). I’m forced to trust the traffic engineers on this one (since I work around a bunch of them).
Regardless, yes, sad.
