Unblogged Bits (Mon. 18-Apr-11 1730)

Links (most recent first) that caught my eye, but did not warrant full-blown blog entries ….

  1. California Republican refuses to resign in the wake of racism scandal – Orange County, Calif., is just sometimes too zany for words.
  2. The ‘v’ word doesn’t poll well, either – I suspect “workhouses” and “medical bankruptcies” also don’t poll well. There’s a ton here the Dems can use to slam the GOP Ryan plan. But will they?
  3. Louisiana adoption ruling: Appeals court gets it wrong – latimes.com – I really expect, in another 10-15 years, this sort of inconsistency and goofiness will be looked at as the death throws of anti-gay prejudice. At least, I hope so.
  4. Barber: Marriage Equality Is A “Rebellion Against God” – I guess when you are self-righteously certain you know what God wants, it’s a very small step to be self-righteously certain you know what gays want.
  5. How to fix any computer – The Oatmeal – HA!
  6. Florida’s GOP House Speaker Pushing Court-Packing Plan To Neutralize Democratic Justices – Stay classy, Florida!
  7. Big Blue Bear Sculpture Gets Ball And Chain – Denver News Story – KMGH Denver – Fun.
  8. Christian Complains About Atheist Students at a High School – It’s one thing to disagree with someone else. It’s another thing to take offense that someone you disagree with is actually visible, and that other people might talk with them.
  9. Lawsuit: Campbell’s “Regular” And “25% Less Sodium” Tomato Soup Both Contain 480mg Of Sodium – Wow. That’s just freaking brazen.
  10. Scott Walker planning financial martial law in Wisconsin – He’s gotta move fast before he faces another election …
  11. Prosser Declared Winner In Wisconsin Court Race After Clerical Error Had Kloppenberg Ahead – Fishy indeed. I hope Kloppenberg does call for a recount, and those “not saved” votes come under particular scrutiny.
  12. California GOP Official And Tea Party Activist Sends Email Showing Obama And Parents As Monkeys – Stay classy, Orange County GOP!
  13. Wash Examiner: Obama Not A Nice Guy. Aw, Did He Hurt Your Fewings? – Even if one concedes the dubious assertion that Obama is no longer being the solicitous, civil, even-handed (to a fault) guy he’s been, one might ask what, exactly, it’s gotten him. Hardly cooperation from the GOP, let alone any mutual respect. So on the odd chance that Obama will have the nerve to draw a distinction between his views and that of the other party, more power to him.

  1. I’m sure there will be a recount for the Supreme Court here in Wisconsin, but I expect that Prosser will still end up winning the election. Pundits are trying to play it as a ringing victory for Prosser, but the fact that an incumbent could be so closely challenged by a no-name candidate is a real shot across the bow of the Right.

Meanwhile, the Government Accountability Board is investigating the last five years of voting from Waukesha County (Motto: Land of the Magic Ballot!). You may not have heard this, but the Waukesha Clerk used to work for Prosser in the Republican Caucus, at the time that the Caucus leadership was investigated and prosecuted for illegal use of the office. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm.
