- When Is Two Plus Two Greater Than Four? – The reason is pretty straightforward. The GOP leadership and punditry keep condemning the AJA as a whole, so the public, esp. the GOP rank and file, think the AJA is awful. But the GOP leadership and punditry can’t get folks to sign onto condemning the individual components, like aiding states to avoid public-sector layoffs, or making infrastructure investments … so they don’t try. And they’ll run on opposing the AJA and they’ll draw cheers from GOP rank and file who think that opposition is a good thing, even if they approve of all its components.
