Always amusing when actors cross paths in different places

We watched the Cybermen two-parter from Series 2 of Doctor Who last night, and were trying to remember where we'd seen the actor playing John Lumic, the mad creator of those cyborg menaces. Knew we'd seen him before, but couldn't remember where.

And it was only today, tracking him (Roger Lloyd Pack) down, that I discovered that the year before he'd played Barty Crouch, Sr., in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. And, of course, playing a delightful tongue-flicking Barty Crouch, Jr., was David Tennant, who was the Doctor on that episode.

(Roger Lloyd Pack was also the delightful Owen Newitt on The Vicar of Dibley, but I don't think David Tennant ever made it onto that series. Pity.)

  1. He’s Owen, from The Vicar of Dibley. I remember him in that role so vividly, it was difficult for me to accept him as Mr. Crouch. I don’t know if I could think of him as John Lumic at all. I’d keep waiting for him to make a remark about a worrying feeling in his colon. Not his fault. He’s a good actor. It’s just that Owen is stuck in my mind.

  2. Si. I was just pulling into the home garage when he was getting to describing what Dr. Who is to 'Merican audiences so didn't hear the rest of what he said about the direction he's taking that series. Some interesting stuff on casting Sherlock as well.

  3. I read the story yesterday (or a story yesterday at NPR) on this. Moffat's an interesting guy (though the headline made it seem like he was the one who brought "Doctor Who" back … which he wasn't).
