DC fleshes out its movie schedule

DC and WB are filling in the gaps and blanks in the movie schedule they previously announced.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – March 25th, 2016
Suicide Squad – August 5th, 2016
Wonder Woman – June 23rd, 2017
Justice League – November 17th, 2017
The Flash – March 23rd, 2018
Aquaman – July 27th, 2018
Shazam – April 5th, 2019
Justice League 2 – June 14th, 2019
Cyborg – April 3rd, 2020
Green Lantern – June 19th, 2020

A few interesting things here. First, no solo Superman or Batman movies scheduled. Second, a rebooted Green Lantern. Third (and biggest), we finally get a Wonder Woman movie (even if it will be New 52 demigodhood in her origin).

(Indeed, that ups the pressure on Marvel to get a woman-leading movie onto their schedule. Ditto a minority-lead film, with Cyborg now on the schedule, too.)

It’s fascinating watching both sides here lay out such elaborate plans over such a long period of time. All are subject to change if the market changes (or certain films tank), but it’s still highly ambitious for both corporations.

  1. I am pleased to see Suicide Squad announced. Given the team's makeup, it can run some great groundwork for future villains in shows rather than just featuring heroes. Its a great angle to work.

  2. I just can't get excited about this stuff. I think it's weird that the movie versions of DC are going for dark and gritty while Marvel is the whizbang fun, since my impression of the comics was always the reverse.

And I don't give a damn about Wonder Woman. There, I said it. She's boring. So's Superman, and Man of Steel did nothing to redeem him.

  3. Yeah, the apparently push to grim-gritty on the DC side is an interesting creative choice, but not my cuppa. I never did see the last few Superman/Batman movies, and I'm not really thrilled by what I'm seeing for BvS.

I do applaud them for finally going forward with WW — I will have to see how it looks coming up.

  4. +Scott Randel Not Pre-Crisis — Pre-Nu52. Get your DC Reboots straight, sir.

But, yes, Cyborg was classically a Titan, but in the Nu52 was made part of the JL. I can't speak to his role there because, frankly, a few issues in I dropped the title like an old fish.

  5. Well, the Wolfman/Perez Titans were pre-crisis. Was Cyborg still on the team after that? Didn't he become an advisor or something?

Anyway, I did say he is now a Leaguer. I would have clarified, but I was posting from my phone.

  6. Um … yes, you are in fact correct that the Wolfman/Perez Titans were pre-Crisis. Brain farted there a moment.

Cyborg may actually have been in the JL during James Robinson's run pre-52, now that I think of it. (Checked. Confirmed.)

  7. +Dave Hill I really enjoy DC serious tone I don't want every superhero movie be Marvel's tone because that will become boring after a while. I like to see a difference for the two universe. I like some comedy in superheroes movies but I don't want the comedy to out way the heavy handed depth of the story also. Which also disappointed me about Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 the Dark World.
