Both Margie and I have 1st Gen Moto Xs that are beginning to show the creaking of age — limits on OS upgrades, loose USB power connections, general wear and tear and the like.
So today we swung by the Verizon store and bought a couple of Pixels. I went for the "normal" 5" edition (which is still bigger than my Moto X), and Margie went for the Pixel XL (5.5"), since she spends a lot of time on her phone playing games.
I got my phone right then and there, in the "Quite Black" version. Margie's XL is backordered to early December (she's getting a "Really Blue" one).
I feels odd letting go of the old phone, but it's also a chance to reevaluate the apps I have loaded and go for a cleaner install.
The biggest problem with the Pixel is that it uses USB C, when I live in a household of USB Micro. Since all the cool kids seem to be converting to C, that's just the way things go. A saturation of cables are already on order. And, even with just the pair of cables that come in the box, I'm already in love with reversible adapter plugs.
Congrats!
Reversible plugs are awesome! I do like that aspect of the Lightning connector on my iPhone. But I’m thinking the *really* awesome thing will be wireless charging. A co-worker had it on a Galaxy Note 7, and while there are obvious problems with that model (and I’m too locked in to the Apple eco system to switch out easily), the wireless charging made me jealous.
One you go USB C, you'll never go back.
+James D. I won't say it's the happiest think about the Pixel, but it certainly ranks up there.
Let us know what you think of it. I'm not trading in our Nexus devices any time soon, but I might get my mother and uncle Pixels.
