Tweetizen Trump – 2017-07-11: "Obstruction! Health Care! Olympics! Missiles!"

Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday! How is the week going for you, Donald?

[Being a look at the @RealDonaldTrump Twitter account, a glance at the @POTUS account, rearranged topically.]

===

This morning you retweeted Fox & Friends (!):

White House calls out Senate Democrats for obstructing nominees [1]

Later, you tweeted "yourself":

The Senate Democrats have only confirmed 48 of 197 Presidential Nominees. They can't win so all they do is slow things down & obstruct! [3]

It appears to be true that Dems are slowing down your nominee approvals — given their minority status in the Senate, that's about all they can do.

On the other hand, your Administration has been slower than past ones in actually nominating people. Significantly so. And a number of your nominees have withdrawn during the process, while others have been delayed due to paperwork being incomplete or ethics forms not being submitted [8].

A report by the Congressional Research Service said Trump had nominated only 242 people to key executive posts as of June 30, compared to 336 and 379 nominated in the same period by former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, respectively.

The Senate had confirmed 186 Obama nominees by June 30, 2009, and 133 Bush nominees by June 2001, the report said.

Democrats have forced debate-limiting on Trump nominees 30 times, the White House said, compared to just eight such "cloture" votes on Obama nominees in 2009.

The nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service said Trump's nominees have waited an average 43 days for confirmation, compared with 35 days for Obama nominees and 24 days for those nominated by George W. Bush.

So there's plenty of blame to go around. Remember, Donald, when you point at other people, three of your fingers are pointing back at yourself.

===

Your Social Media Minions retweeted VP Pence:

If you want to see Congress #RepealAndReplace Obamacare, now is the time to let your voice be heard. [6]

You also retweeted Fox & Friends (!) with a sound bite from "Lyin' Ted Cruz" (!):

SEN. CRUZ: It's crazy to go an August recess without having Obamacare repealed. We should work every day until it is done! (via #Hannity) [2]

Again, neatly presented that it's all up to Congress (and the GOP majority in both houses) to fail here. You could be holding high-level summit talks with Senators, Donald — big, flashy, very public meetings. Drag in the Dems, too. Use the bully pulpit. Don't get distracted by trivia and other issues. Pound away on this. Risk something.

Instead, you seem to be leaning back, letting Pence hold private conferences, sniping at the GOP on Twitter, and leaving Mitch McConnell to dangle in the breeze.

I'm sure that will end well for you, Donald.

===

Working hard to get the Olympics for the United States (L.A.). Stay tuned! [4]

Oh my God, Donald, why would you be pushing for some huge, flashy event that will be financially ruinous and only offer the opportunity for folk to be broadcast around the world for personal glory …

… oh, wait, never mind. Of course you want the Olympics in the US in 2024. Hell, that's the most concrete sign I've seen that you plan to run for another term of office, just so that you can attend, cut ribbons, make speeches, and generally turn the Olympics into a celebration of You in your Ultimate Year.

Maybe. It sounds like the IOC has actually has already decided to award both 2024 and 2028 to LA and Paris, the only question being which city gets which year [7]. I'm sure you're pushing as hard as you can for LA to get 2024, Donald, even if it means the Federal Government offers to take on all the security, and it means you've agree to let athletes in from those countries [8].

===

And, again, with the Fox & Friends (!):

FOX NEWS ALERT: U.S. flexes its defense muscles, destroys incoming test missile off coast of Alaska [5]

You know, most Presidents would issue a statement from their own office, or even quote something from the Pentagon. I find it fascinating that you are giving the American public news about official US actions … from Fox & Friends.

Or maybe you just liked that phrase "flexes its defense muscles."

Apparently the test was of the THAAD system, the controversial missile defense that was being deployed into South Korea [10]. It's not actually an ICBM defense, which is where a lot of the concern over North Korea (esp. in Alaska) has been, but it does give you a chance to wave the flag a bit (and flack for Fox & Friends).

===

You and/or your Social Media Minion also tweeted about …

… the Marine plane crash in Mississippi (retweeted on @POTUS)
… "Big wins against ISIS!" (and, on the @POTUS side, an official statement on the Liberation of Mosul).

You and/or your Social Media Minion did not tweet about …

… what the heck is going on with Donald, Jr., and all those "collusion" accusations [11].

  1. +Dave Hill i see…. and the invincibility cloak the presidency provides helped donald in succeeding to hide his skeletons….. well with the new trial by popular opinion and ''claims'' now submittable in the court of law as ''findings of fact'', mr trump won't be getting away with his shananegens much longer.

  2. As for the nominees, when a number of already confirmed nominees have been shown to have lied about various things, did he believe this would speed up? His lack of focus on the State Department noms is also very telling on his priorities. Hard to attend a G20 summit when the majority of countries there haven't had diplomatic channels available since January. (Just saying)
