The Treasury Department’s Magical Thinking

After weeks of Trump’s Steve Mnuchin promising that the entire Treasury Dept. was working on a detailed analysis to prove how incredibly cool the GOP Tax Reformish Thingie is (whatever form it eventually takes), the analysis has come out. All one page of it. Plus a few footnotes. Basically saying “Here are some numbers, trust us, there are lots of other numbers, but these are the important numbers, isn’t this plan cool?”

Needless to say, it’s come under some criticism. Not least of which is that it assumes the plan will pay for itself … if a bunch of other tax cuts and bills get passed. Which would be a pretty darned easy bar for pretty much any bill to pass, one would think.
