What is it about insurance commercials these days?

I swear to God, the funniest commercials on TV right now, and for a while, are from Geico — with Progressive and Farmers trailing closely behind.

I'm not sure why that's the case (at least to my aesthetic), but as I'm FFing through commercials on the DVR, those are the ones that make me stop and watch.

  1. Enjoy it while you can. Adverts down here are all about "tugging at the heart strings". You get some nice music, visual beauty, huggable words, then BAM! Road accident insurance, or a new detergent commercial.

  2. +L Gorrie Oh, we get those, too, but there's an interesting strain of insurance commercials that have taken on absurdist humor as their way to attract eyeballs. Very different from the traditional insurance commercial focusing on profound, gravitas-oozing announcers / actors intoning how much insurance company X will be there for you when something awful happens.
