Happy Blogaversary to Me

Keep Calm and Blog OnMy blog is fourteen years old today.  Well, yesterday, actually. It was kind of a busy day.

I started my blog, alas, after the birth of my daughter (who was a year and a half old then), but just in time (also alas) for 9/11. And it’s been running long enough that I find myself sometimes pleasantly surprised (and sometimes wincing) at who I was back then, and what I was writing about, and how many changes have occurred in my life since then.

Fourteen is about 85 in blog years. DDtB started out on Blogger, back when it was an independent company and blogging was still cutting edge (and, yes, that’s about as cutting edge as I’ve ever gotten). A stint on Movable Type, and a long run on WordPress later … and not a lot of blogs are still active these days, given the changes in social media in this Facebookish kind of world.

Though I use Google Plus and (to a lesser extent) Twitter as the front end for most post entries these days, my WordPress blog remains the core of my vast self-publishing empire, the aggregator of all I do, preserved for the centuries … or at least as long as I maintain a hosted site and keep up on patching and security.

As hobbies go, it’s been a particularly long-lived one for me. As my life goes through a significant shift these days, it’s another apt time to be writing. And so I shall.
