Very cool article over at Neatorama about the origins (and evolution) of major studio logos, from the Dreamworks “kid fishing from the moon” to the MGM lion, to the Fox searchlights, to the Paramount mountain, to the WB shield, to the Columbia, um, Columbia.
The stories are interesting, but just as much is how the logos have changed (or not) over the decades. Some have been intentionally updated (the cool, mod, 70s-80s are clearly visible at Paramount and Warner), while others (MGM, Fox) have been amazingly stable.
I have always had a crush on the Columbia Pictures’ babe. What is she, about 7 feet tall? (Model standing on a small pedestal for photo)
