I grew up in a family with a subscription to Life Magazine, and I have a ton of fond memories of it, as well as the appreciation it gave me for photography. Now Google is hosting a massive collection of Life Magazine photos.
Search millions of photographs from the LIFE photo archive, stretching from the 1750s to today. Most were never published and are now available for the first time through the joint work of LIFE and Google.
Very cool. You can also use the “source:life” tag in any Google Image search to narrow it down to this collection. Spiffy!
1750s?!?
Well, there’s an 1860s category, but I haven’t seen how far back … yeah, 1750s seems a bit off. But that’s what’s on the web page, so it must be true.
Well, deguerrotypes were around in the 1840s, so I would think that would be the baseline date. I’ll assume that they meant 1850s and that it was a typo.
