My Loving Liberal

Margie called up the local progressive radio station, prompted by discussion about all the GOPpers ranting about (in the context of Supreme Court justice nominees) the evils of “empathy,” being “emotional,” and having “a bad day.”

Her cogent comment, once on the air: “Those are all code words for reasons why women wouldn’t make good Supreme Court justices.”

I’m going to hover over the web page and see if I can point to the official stream so that everyone can enjoy it. Stay tuned …

“My wife. I think I’ll keep her.”

  1. Was it in the AM or the PM?

Am would be whoever is filling in for Jay Marvin (Usually David Sirota) or the PM which is Mario Solis-Marich (Who is great fun to listen to)

  2. Isn’t gender the ultimate wedge issue?
Go Margie! Tell it like it is!
As an aside, my code word to post my comment is incredibly like functional malarkey. It should be dysfunctional malarkey!

Literally about 2/3 through the file (at 31:30), and responding to this clip.

MARIO: Line 2, Margie, your on AM 760. Margie, you’re on the air.

MARGIE: Hi! I was listening to your video clip, I just signed in, and I was listening to the piece about emotion, and —

    MARIO: Empathy.

MARGIE: — empathy, and “bad days,” and, you know what? Those are all code words that say that women wouldn’t make a good Supreme Court justice —

MARIO: That’s what I thought! I’m telling you, Margie, I am so glad, I am so glad, because I, I wouldn’t say it because I was thinking, am I going, am I not, am I being too rough —

    MARGIE: No.

MARIO: — on these guys. That’s why I asked Oscar, what do you think they mean by “bad day,” someone’s gonna have a “bad day,” what does that mean? Right?

MARGIE: Exactly. You know, that’s like, saying that women, once a month —

    MARIO: Right.

MARGIE: — are crabby. And then you get the “emotion” and “empathy” and those are all things saying that women are just going to be judges based on their heart, not on the rule of law.

MARIO: You know, by the way, I agree with you 100%. And when this whole “bad day” thing, you know, when I heard that, I thought, what is that? Because I heard it earlier today, right? And I was like, wow, and I thought, they’re going to get hammered about that, and then I haven’t heard anybody talk about it. So I thought, maybe I’m just inferring this, in my own little head.

MARGIE: No, that was the first thing I thought of.

MARIO: Margie, thank you for your call, I appreciate it.

Margie was cut off, but basically just saying thank you at that point.

Note: She is available for stints on “Meet the Press” and other weekend punditry shows. Please contact via this blog.

    (Well said, Honey.)
