I'm certainly old enough to remember (and remember personally entertaining) the idea that "mixed-race" marriages were so outre that, well, "think of the children" and how they might be teased or socially ostracized.
On the other hand, I didn't ever consider that such reasoning should be a legal or judicial consideration. Unlike some others, it seems, in the case of a gay parent seeking custody.
