Did the Hess TF again this weekend, as organized by Avocet, and participating, this time, Velvet and P-siren. Along for the ride were Aerobolt, Granite Rock, Fixette, WillO’Wisp, and Lunar Lupun.
Initial organization with these things was chaotic, as folks couldn’t make it, folks dropped, the SK/Exemp questions nagged, the lack of scrappers concerned, etc. (Yes, Avo, it’s often an hour before TFs actually take off, though 30 minutes is usually a more common lag.)
Once we got going, though, and got used to each others’ capabilities, it went remarkably smoothly — despite the fact that everything was purple to both PS and me, PS couldn’t actually hit anything for damage, and I barely could. On the upside, PS’s bubbles were a key defense (despite everyone running away when it was time to reapply), and I was able to draw fire briefly with taunts (without being able to further hit well, it was hard to hold the aggro).
The upside to all of this was that both of us dinged twice — and that was from just into 25 for Velvet and dinging on the TF completion. And we all got out before the Giant Robot blew up. Spiffy.
(Our tactics in the Robot Chamber — just stay on the first level and draw everyone down to us — worked great. We probably should have jumped to the bottom sooner, but by the time we drew Archon Burkholder to us, we were able to pretty effectively gang up on him and take him down.)
Good group, overall, and much fun. Wasn’t up to doing Bastion (a *real* slog) after that, as most of the group did. Went off to Talos, and made some serious investments in SOs.
And, yes, the Velvet respec seemed to work well. I ran with full defense most of the time, and only had End problems when I forgot to drop Super Jump before entering the mish.
And I got KO Blow, which actually did do some damage to the mobs, so I didn’t feel completely useless.
UPDATE: After dinner and some other mishing, ended up running Truly Unstable with Fallen Twice. Duoing with two Defenders is an interesting challenge, but between Margie’s kinetic mojo and my radiation buddies, we did pretty well.
And playing TU on the coms is always a lot of fun.
After I saw that you all had two controllers two tanks, and a defender with twice the defensive power as Puck, I never had any doubts that you guys would glide through the TF.
Plus it gave me some good RP time with Rayne, so it all worked out.
The down side it that Puck is going on hiatus after I had to channel Bad Cop (last seen yelling and throwing things at people at the Flats), last night OOC to resolve the stupid Allegro/Loki/lupun/fixette/agent seven plot.
I do so love waking up sunday morning to a death threat against Puck…it makes my day really.
Well, you would have been more than welcome, but we were indeed never in too much danger. (I suspect Velvet would have been at least as dispensible, with GR on the ground to anchor the team. Crikey.)
Sorry to hear about the, um, “RP Gone Wild” bits. How unpleasant (and one reason why not so much into the Heavy RP world). As you move your gameplay back to our lower ranks, we’ll keep an eye out for you.
oh…I’m assuming Puck is going to get kicked…
/em blinks
The one time Avocet went down was when the rest of the team abandomed him to deal with a Boss, with only Velvet as his side. Went well enough until he decided to ignore VJ and charge the puny bird-guy. Velvet kept slugging away until the unconscious Avocet sent out a mental call for help, and the rest of the team charged back to help her.
Stan, I couldn’t believe how long that session lasted last night! It must have been brutal. It was around 2:00 PDT when Allegro was finally free to RP the aftermath with Avo, too late to tell me what actually happened. You’ve added a bit more information, but I still want to hear how it went.
You really think they’ll kick Puck out? I did think she carried the anti-Allegro bias too far, but I may not be the best judge of that. I’d think probation would be more than enough, unless something *really* bad happened at the meeting last night.
Encountered Willie twice around that time. We’re pretty sure he was checking out Badlander’s butt.
Oh, and Kessa had “the talk” with Avocet…
Oh no…it had nothing to do with IC’ly matters, all OOC’ly…and yes very brutal. Still dealing with it today.
And Awwww…the talk…so Friend with Benefits or not?
I do Like Kessa…a very wentertaining character that I both IC and OOC do not fully understand, but enjoy the interactions with her.
OOCly stuff, even worse.
Sounds all the more like why I keep some limits (time restrictions notwithstanding) re RP in this setting. I have enough “OOC” issues IRL. 🙂
Well…Dave, You have stayed away from all of the godmoder Players and Plots…So you’ll be cool.
There is method in my madness.
See, for me, the game is about the game, with RP a fun icing. Indeed, almost necessary — not so much a fan of just plain, unfrosted cake. In some cases, some extra time and attention and care with the frosting makes for an extraordinary confection. But all icing makes for a sick Dave.
Thank you Dave for the first damn laugh I have had in 12 hours!
you rock!
I … um … live to serve. Cake, maybe.
Avo, btw, idn’t know there was a boss in there, just that the very narrow hallway was a hell of a crowded mess. Regrets that I wasn’t able to pull that guy off you in time (though we eventually took him down after the fact, despite VJ’s inability to hit a wall, it seemed).
Pages and archives and dynamic publishing, oh my!
Okay, so I’m sort of a verbose guy. A quick glance at the sidebar indicates over 8,000 posts here at DDtB. And even though I have lots of categories to…
By the way…
The Azure’s were very entertaining last night and the only good part of the CC.
Very Thin Man Nick and Nora-ish.
Great concept, thank you.
I spent last night as Ciunas and the Zazi. The end of the evening with Pizzaz, Chilljoy, Mal Bot, and Zazi which are now known collectivly as team “Clean Sweep”. It was amazing to watch in action. For missions that were white for Zazi or yellow/red and thus purple for the others, we just rolled them and almost never had to stop moving. It was like watching army ants in action. I have never seen anything like it.
Great fun!
By then end of the evening, I was so relaxed and having a good time again that I was falling asleep at the keyboard (well…I hadn’t slept since sunday morning…so…understandable). A great evening and made me like everything again.
Yay!

Thanks. We had a lot of fun, too. And, yes, Nick and Nora Charles were one of my inspirations, though Jane is a lot more clever than Nora, and Jack drinks a lot less than Nick.
I’m actually surprised I haven’t seen more “couples” of this sort. There’ve been plenty of romances, even some marriages, IC, but the “old married couple, much in love, with banter” idea seems to still be a fresh one.
(Today’s trivia note: The “Thin Man” was not Nick Charles in the original movie/book. But folks thought it was, and William Powell was thin, so the name got latched to him in the sequels.)
Glad you got some sleep, and that you feel better.
>so Friend with Benefits or not?
Yes and no. Avocet’s receiving some benefits, but as you noticed last night, they are *painfully* (and you can take that literally) short of full benefits.
Much fun today on Coalition chat when Aurore asked about the flowers, and then wanted to know whom they were for. Even with promptings from many Alliance members, Avocet wouldn’t say, and while he was leading them ’round and ’round, I got a Tell from Kess: “*I* could tell them!” I agreed, but pointed out that she could also drop a hint to make them wonder even more. That went so:
Kessa: If you kiss him , he tends to talk a little more
Avocet: Actually, that makes me tend to stammer…
Kessa: True, but they will kiss you now just to find out.(giggles)
Just as they were giving up, Shock.Therapy announced herself. I said, “Hi, Nora. Glad you weren’t here a minute ago.” Aurore immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was Nora! Heh.
I wonder what Psi-clone would have said had he joined the channel a few minutes earlier.
Something droll, no doubt.
