Ding, ding, ding went my heart …

Lynn Calodo dinged to 11, and got invited into the Allies. Now, at least, I can hear the chatter, even if Lynn’s not the type to actively go out and seek same. Have to find a way around that.
More importantly, Amorpha and Psi-clone both dinged 30, which feels like a huge milestone (though 32 will be bigger). Did a lot of SKing to higher level folks, which helped (hopefully we each contributed to the causes as well).
For the record, Amorpha beat Psi-clone there by at least 24 hours.
Toyed with the idea of a new costume for Psi-clone, but couldn’t come up with something I liked.
Did a respec on Psi-clone, since he had two in the hopper. Dropped (pushed back to later) Rez in favor of Air Superiority, and droped Assault in favor of Tactics. Also dropped Haste (until later) in favor of Maneuvers. Did some play with that pair last night, and it seemed to work well, though Amorpha’s such a force of nature it’s hard to tell if she’s gotten even more lethal.
It’s actually an interesting evolution in PC, moving a more away from the Controller side (esp. in groups) and into more of a “Defender in Denial” — beefing up the Empathy, taking the Leadership pool, etc.
Would have been handy tackling Inferno the other night. Yikes.
As I plotted PC out toward 50, I realized that I needed to take Hasten after all — I was 6-slotting too many things for recharge. But up until now, I really haven’t made use of it.

  1. Yay!
Still very shocked that you decided to embarress MK like that.
Zazi took on Maestro sunday. The first attempt went to the point of holy cow…I’ve only dented his HP and I’m out of End. After bringing in Super Villain and gimping her, the two of us were able to take him out.
Puck shoulb be back tonight or tomorrow depending on what happens character wise, and should be able to hit 32 by weeks end.

I thought it was just the sort of thing that Psi-clone would do, and the “30” barrier has been hovering in front of us for so long that it seemed appropriate to celebrate.
My biggest regret was that, in the excitement of the moment, I used the very OOC word “ding.” Though I tried to cover for it when that was pointed out.

  3. What did you do yo embarrass her? This is the first I’ve heard of it.
I don’t know if Avo needs to use his respec or not. How do you tell? And then how do you decide what to change? I feel like you guys all know all the ins and outs of this game, and I’m just a fumbling dilettante.
Oh, and level 32 brought him…Nova! Doyce said 6-slot it with Damage and Recharge as quickly as possible. I tried it out last night on a dry run. With one +3 Recharge Enh, it takes a full five minutes to recharge. I thought maybe Recharge was going to be more important than Damage, but when I tried it in combat, two of the four Freakshow we had been fighting got back up, so Damage will need to be amped up.
I suppose I could use my respec to max out Nova. How do know if it’s worth it? Eh, I think I’ll just leave things as they are. For now, anyway.
And everybody be nice to the CoJ’s newest member, and my RL best friend, Phed-X! He and Avo make a frighteningly effective duo. Sorry I couldn’t attend the interview, but Avo was on his big date with Abby. (You should have seen her dress! Wow! I mean…Wow! It was just the most…Wow!)

  4. I would save them Avo, so that when you make a boo-boo in slotting of power selection, you can correct it.
And Yes Avo…the female characters have been making a lot of jokes about the size of Abby’s…Pec’s…since one is the size of Zazi’s entire head.
And fred looked like he was doing a good job last night, and doing a lot better then several of the recruit’s over the last month or so.
And As I told “Randy” Avo, Zazi spent a good hour trying to find the Waterfall in Talos…And found it. Just a bit north of the DA gate, and kind of a neat find.

I made a public /c announcement that Amorpha had made it to security level 30. I thought (and still do think) it was a fine milestone.
Nova should be, I’d think, a very once-in-a-while power — a “Take down the Boss, or at least his Hangers-On” sort of thing. Wouldn’t expect to use it very often.
As to the mysteries of the respec — there are a couple of guides on the forums that give the practical ins-and-outs. Bottom line, a respec is used when:
    – you discover a given power is just performing as well as another power you think you should have (or, from the other side, when you discover that you must have a power that you skipped).
    – you discover that you’ve wasted an inordinate number of slots on a particular power.
Note that sometimes these “mistakes” are just evolution — what worked for your character’s slotting and power selection at 10 or 20 may be far less efficient at 30 or 40. Some powers that were essential back then are superfluous now, and can be recycled for an extra power or slots (though, of course, if you exemp, that could come back to bite you).
If you use something like CoH Planner, you can also build a “respec” character and do comparisons back and forth to see how things like Resistance and Defense and Endurance Use and the like compare. Useful.
Respecs are also good when powers change or get nerfed or boosted. That’s why we’ll all be getting a free one with Issue 5. Yay.

  6. Dave, Having watched Hang Time and Kinetica in action…Nova is da bomb.
Avo, do what HT says, and you will love yourself (right up to the I5 update). On several missions that I’ve been on with those two, it was the opening salvo (right after the Tank went in to get everybody’s attention) that softened up the entire mob, or utterly destroyed them.
    The action went like this:
    Tank goes in and aggros.
    Puck holds mob.
Kinetica goes “Boom”, and all of the minions were gone leaving only the LT’s and the boss to deal with.
Move on the next Mob and have the other blaster with nova go “boom”.
    Repeat.

  7. Dave, Having watched Hang Time and Kinetica in action…Nova is da bomb.
    Heh. That’s funny.
No, actually, I very much appreciate the incredible power of Nova (and similar Big Boom Blaster powers). I wasn’t understimating their value or power, just that their availability is rarely going to be an “every melee/every mob” sort of thing, even if fully slotted with Recharge and perma-Haste, unless you’re ready to do a lot of standing around chit-chatting. As you note yourself (emphasis mine) …

Move on the next Mob and have the other blaster with nova go “boom”.
Run around with two or three boom-capable blasters and, yeah, you can make it part of the SOP. Otherwise, expect to use a variety tactics.
