Book 12 is up

LotRO’s Book 12 is up. Good summary of various new chewy bits here.

But I already have the Best Feature Evah:

Yup.  I think I’m gonna love that “Enter last-played world” checkbox. Small, but a great QoL feature.

  1. As opposed to logging in, then waiting for the system to status the various servers, then picking the server you want to sign in on. Assuming you aren’t hopping onto an alt on another server (which, so far, is less frequent a choice in LotRO for me than CoX, even if the number of slots per server is much smaller (5)), this saves time in a simple way.
I’d love to see this in CoX, too. 🙂

  2. Ahhh, okay.
Since CoX is the only game that I had Toons on Multiple servers, I cannot say what WoW or EQ2 does server wise (other than server selection at the time of creation).
Though I will say that EQ2 has a nice little trick that puts the last played toon on the bottom of the list and the toon with the longest gap in play at the top of the list. I find it handy as a way to get me to rotate play of all the different alts. 🙂
EQ2 is set up with a set max of total toons (8), but you can buy more slots if you want (shush, I bought more).

  3. I always have found it frustrating in CoX that the toon listing within each server is fixed, but the server listing rotates with no apparent logic than that the most recently selected server is at the top (which makes it nigh impossible to search for that one alt you’re looking for without writing down all the server names and checking them off).
I’d also like CoX (and LotRO) to show how long it’s been since a toon was played on the selection screen. You could even color code it (a week, a month, six months) to make it stand out. If nothing else, it would make it easier to remember to sign them in for events.

  4. What I’d like is a way to log out of one server and log into another without shutting down the whole program. If it’s possible, I haven’t figured out how to do it!

  5. That is, in fact, one of the more annoying (and, I’d think, unnecessary) aspect of LotRO.
Of course, I find it annoying that switching toons in CoX requires relogging in, too, but this is worse.

  6. In LotRO, once you’ve selected a server, you’re stuck on it for the session. Only way to sign onto someone on a different server is to exit the program fully.
I’m sure there were very good reasons for doing it, and it probably doesn’t bug 90% of the players, but it’s a PitA for the rest.
