Knights Night

Managed to make it to our first Knights Night in a while. Not a wildly attended affair, but quite enjoyable — Mal as Horehound, BD as Cate Winters, Kessa (while maintaining a connection) as Id-Energy — and guest starring Margie and me as the Azures … who aren’t Storm Knights, though they fit right in nicely. A bit of egg nog and holiday cheer, and we were good to go.

It was actually a very “balanced” AT set — tank, scrapper, blaster, controller, (occasional) defender. We ran the first story arc in Faultline — which is just gorgeous, both in terrain and in missions — and had a great time, except for one room where we were (a) a man down, and (b) a bit cocky about drawing aggro from everywhere.

Playing the Azures was a kick, as usual (no pun intended). We may have to pull them out more often. Margie was rediscovering the joy of Deceive/Confuse (which Mal and I could have reminded her of any time), and I’ve been doing a lot with MA scrappers of late, and it was interesting to see how Mr. A’s build resembled/differed from ones I’ve been looking at (Jump Kick is a key part of his attack chain, which just seems odd). We both dinged 17 (only slots, alas), and are ready for more.

At any rate, a great time. We won’t likely be able to make it to the other two penciled in on the board (an announcement in the SG message might help pull more attendance from others), but we’ll definitely be watching for next month’s installments.

  1. Yeppers…
A good night, a good team (which was better when we had Kessa along), and good fun. 🙂
    Plus…
New Maps! woot…yay…hehehe…I love me some new maps baby! ;P

  2. That said…
The only thing I dislike about CoH side confuse vs. CoV side confuse is that you do not get XP for it like you do Villain side.
Venenata LOVE tossing confuse into a mob and letting them smack eachother, vining them and taking out the survivors.

  3. I remember always being so delighted with the Azures. Glad to see you’re playing them again.

  4. Thanks. It was fun.
They really need to go along with a group — half their enjoyability is in their dialog
I love the new maps and map segments (and outside doors!) in I8. The “outside” map part of the Nocturne was great.

  5. Yeah. That mass confuse in Plant is pretty cool.
(Hmm … do I get XP for folks confused by my Arctic Air on the Cold Control side?)

This time I hadn’t done this. My bad.

I do want to test that. When you use confuse, is there any damage that you are doing to the NPCs or are you using any other powers in addition to the confuse?
Confuse is a good deal of fun for my playstyle.

  7. On the confuse…
What I am thinking is that the Hero side Confuse is NOT seen as an attack, so you can confuse to your hearts content and not have to worry about anyone attacking you if you fail to hit. Whereas on Villain side, Seeds of confusion is an attack and you WILL be attacked if you fail to hit. So, I think that is why there is the difference.

  8. Ah. Yes — that is one of the Good Things about the hero-side — no reward, but no risk.
Also on the hero side, it’s rare that you’ll actually take down the main baddy this way (the minions tend to kill each other, not the boss). The XP “loss,” then, is not all that great, and it increases the chance of successfully ganging on the boss, reducing risk of debt, and thus further mitigating the XP “loss.”
Cf last night — losing 4 yellow mooks XP to largely clear the field (except for an orange lieut) so we could tackle Nocturne was well worth it, IMO.

This time I hadn’t done this. My bad.

And I didn’t think of it until I signed on that night, so there.

I’ve checked the Seeds of Confusion power. As near as I can tell from playing with it for 15ish minutes.
    1. Missing only draws aggro if you are in the aggro range.
    2. An NPC defeated only by confused NPC damage gives no XP. (This matches the power description) Note that if you do any damage to something that the confused target is hitting, then you get XP in proportion to the amount of damage you do.
