It&#8217;s a bit less mechanics-oriented than the previous one, and more functional:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/heroes\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/greatest-american-hero.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2129\" title=\"Greatest American Hero\" src=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/heroes\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/greatest-american-hero-237x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/heroes\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/greatest-american-hero-237x300.jpg 237w, https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/heroes\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/greatest-american-hero.jpg 388w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 237px) 85vw, 237px\" \/><\/a>I need to feel heroic<\/strong>. \u00a0Jogging everywhere in the world? Doing boring grind missions?\u00a0Imperiled\u00a0by battling three opponents? \u00a0That&#8217;s not feeling heroic. (Note: this doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean &#8220;super-hero&#8221; or &#8220;comic book hero&#8221;.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Duo-friendly<\/strong>. A big part of my gaming life is playing with Margie. \u00a0A game that makes it difficult for us (and usually just us) to play side-by-side, due to different start points, or poor leveling \/ sidekicking setups, or whatever, is going to be a frustration to us. \u00a0(Heck, I remain irked at CoH for quashing Level Pacting.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>A variety of content \/ replayability.<\/strong> I don&#8217;t want to feel railroaded through just one course of action. I want parallel ways of gaining experience and exploring the world and so forth.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Well-written content<\/strong>. I don&#8217;t mind humor, but overall I want to take the story seriously.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alt-friendly<\/strong>. For whatever reason, Margie and I are both alt-aholics. \u00a0We like to try out different character types and combinations. \u00a0We&#8217;d like to play something (in conjunction with requirement #3) that doesn&#8217;t require us to delete characters in order to roll up new ones.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Soloable.<\/strong> Though we game together a lot, sometimes we like running solo, just to try something new, or because the other person isn&#8217;t around or doesn&#8217;t feel like gaming. \u00a0(This tends to be tied a lot to #4.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>So that&#8217;s more than three, but those are the important things I&#8217;m (still) looking for.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yeah, I know I&#8217;ve talked about this before, but it came up in conversation during date night with Margie. \u00a0&#8220;What three things,&#8221; she asked, &#8220;are you really looking for from a game?&#8221; I hemmed and hawed, and we discussed, and this is the (not quite three) list it boiled down to.
