{"id":437,"date":"2006-01-31T07:30:22","date_gmt":"2006-01-31T13:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/heroes\/wp\/2006\/01\/subtle\/"},"modified":"2006-01-31T07:30:22","modified_gmt":"2006-01-31T13:30:22","slug":"subtle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/heroes\/2006\/01\/subtle.html","title":{"rendered":"Subtle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While there are any number of standard hero names (&#8220;Captain Megaton&#8221;) and quite a number of dubious ones (&#8220;Rectal Damage&#8221;), not to mention funny ones (see Hostess Heroes), occasionally one comes along that&#8217;s a lot more subtle.<br \/>\nSo the other night, we ran across &#8220;Proverbs 31 Woman,&#8221; which had folks scratching their heads.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=proverbs%2031&#038;version=31\">Proverbs 31<\/a>:<br \/>\n<em> 9  Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character<br \/>\n10 [c] A wife of noble character who can find?<br \/>\nShe is worth far more than rubies.<br \/>\n11 Her husband has full confidence in her<br \/>\nand lacks nothing of value.<br \/>\n12 She brings him good, not harm,<br \/>\nall the days of her life.<br \/>\n13 She selects wool and flax<br \/>\nand works with eager hands.<br \/>\n14 She is like the merchant ships,<br \/>\nbringing her food from afar.<br \/>\n15 She gets up while it is still dark;<br \/>\nshe provides food for her family<br \/>\nand portions for her servant girls.<br \/>\n16 She considers a field and buys it;<br \/>\nout of her earnings she plants a vineyard.<br \/>\n17 She sets about her work vigorously;<br \/>\nher arms are strong for her tasks.<br \/>\n18 She sees that her trading is profitable,<br \/>\nand her lamp does not go out at night.<br \/>\n19 In her hand she holds the distaff<br \/>\nand grasps the spindle with her fingers.<br \/>\n20 She opens her arms to the poor<br \/>\nand extends her hands to the needy.<br \/>\n21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;<br \/>\nfor all of them are clothed in scarlet.<br \/>\n22 She makes coverings for her bed;<br \/>\nshe is clothed in fine linen and purple.<br \/>\n23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,<br \/>\nwhere he takes his seat among the elders of the land.<br \/>\n24 She makes linen garments and sells them,<br \/>\nand supplies the merchants with sashes.<br \/>\n25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;<br \/>\nshe can laugh at the days to come.<br \/>\n26 She speaks with wisdom,<br \/>\nand faithful instruction is on her tongue.<br \/>\n27 She watches over the affairs of her household<br \/>\nand does not eat the bread of idleness.<br \/>\n28 Her children arise and call her blessed;<br \/>\nher husband also, and he praises her:<br \/>\n29 &#8220;Many women do noble things,<br \/>\nbut you surpass them all.&#8221;<br \/>\n30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;<br \/>\nbut a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.<br \/>\n31 Give her the reward she has earned,<br \/>\nand let her works bring her praise at the city gate.<\/em><br \/>\nAnd there you have it.  Don&#8217;t recall if she was clothed in scarlet, but there are some fun things in there for a hero.
