Tasty!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>Ingredients:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8 c mixed unsalted nuts<\/li>\n<li>1 pound thick-cut bacon<\/li>\n<li>1 c dried apple rings, chopped<\/li>\n<li>2 egg whites<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp water<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 c light brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp salt (if using salted nuts, omit salt)<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp black pepper<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp white pepper<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp ground cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 tsp cayenne pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Directions:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 300\u00b0.<\/li>\n<li>Cook the bacon until crisp, drain on paper towel, roughly chop, set aside.<\/li>\n<li>Combine the sugar and the spices in a small bowl, set aside.<\/li>\n<li>In a large clean bowl vigorously whisk the egg whites until foamy.<\/li>\n<li>Add the water and continue to whisk until you have soft peaks and there is no\u00a0water on the bottom of the bowl. Be careful not to go\u00a0too far &#8211; whites should be\u00a0soft, light and foamy, not stiff.<\/li>\n<li>Toss the nuts into the bowl and coat the nuts in the egg whites lightly, using your fingertips.<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle the sugar and spice mixture over the nuts and gently toss\u00a0until everything is completely coated.<\/li>\n<li>Spread in a single layer onto parchment-lined baking sheets.<\/li>\n<li>Bake for 20 minutes, stirring and flipping with a spatula\u00a0occasionally.<\/li>\n<li>After 20 minutes sprinkle with the bacon\u00a0and apple, toss one more time and return to the oven for another 10 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Remove from oven and let nuts cool completely on the baking sheets.<\/li>\n<li>When they\u00a0are cool break up any larger clumps<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>Serves: <\/b>8 cups<b><br \/>\nSource: <\/b>foodrepublic.co<br \/>\n<b>Comments: <\/b>Once baked, they keep for a few days at room temperature and actually improve after a day or two on the counter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"Section2\" dir=\"LTR\">\n<p align=\"CENTER\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The apples are an unexpected variation to spiced nuts.
