(8 oz.) shredded mild cheddar cheese<\/li>\n<li>6 c. cooked potato\u00a0chunks, slightly undercooked<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Directions<\/h3>\n<p><em>The day before &#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Saute onion in butter.<\/li>\n<li>Blend in flour and seasonings.<\/li>\n<li>Gradually add milk: cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.<\/li>\n<li>Add 1\u00bd c. of the cheese; stir until melted.<\/li>\n<li>Toss potatoes in the cheese sauce.<\/li>\n<li>Pour into 2-quart casserole; refrigerate<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>The day of &#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bake in the oven on low for 2-4 hours, to slowly warm through and finish cooking the potatoes.<\/li>\n<li>Top with remaining cheese. Serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Servings<\/strong>: 6; notations on the recipe call to triple the recipe for our holiday table.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source<\/strong>: Something from Kraft foods<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>* Original recipe calls for Parkay margarine, but, c&#8217;mon &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Variant<\/strong>: As the original recipe shows, this is meant as a main dish, using\u00a0\u00bd lb. ham cut into 1\/8-inch slices, and slicing the potatoes.
