{"id":647,"date":"2014-09-18T14:59:50","date_gmt":"2014-09-18T20:59:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/margie\/?p=647"},"modified":"2015-03-16T14:02:11","modified_gmt":"2015-03-16T20:02:11","slug":"new-england-boiled-beef-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/margie\/new-england-boiled-beef-dinner.html","title":{"rendered":"New England Boiled Beef Dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Horseradish, sour pickles and coarse salt are served as accompaniments.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Ingredients:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>4 lbs beef brisket<\/li>\n<li>1 onion<\/li>\n<li>2 whole cloves (stuck into onion)<\/li>\n<li>1 bay leaf<\/li>\n<li>1 clove garlic, peeled<\/li>\n<li>1 stalk celery cut in 1 inch slices<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd tsp pepper<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp rosemary<\/li>\n<li>1 c water (More for stove top cooking)<\/li>\n<li>6 carrots peeled and sliced<\/li>\n<li>1 turnip peeled and diced<\/li>\n<li>6 Yukon gold potatoes cut into eighths<\/li>\n<li>1 small cabbage head cut in chunks<\/li>\n<li>horseradish<\/li>\n<li>sour pickles<\/li>\n<li>coarse salt (kosher)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong> Slow cooker<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Place beef in a slow cooker with next 9 ingredients. Meat may be cut in pieces<br \/>\nto fit pot.<\/li>\n<li>Cook on low 10 \u2013 12 hours, until tender<\/li>\n<li>Parboil carrots, turnip and potatoes.<\/li>\n<li>Add vegetables and cook on high 1 hour.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong> Stove top<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Put the brisket in 5-6 qt dutch oven with next 9 ingredients.<\/li>\n<li>Cover with\u00a01 inch of water.<\/li>\n<li>Bring to barely simmering and cover.
