{"id":726,"date":"2014-09-21T17:38:43","date_gmt":"2014-09-21T23:38:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/margie\/?p=726"},"modified":"2016-11-20T16:36:26","modified_gmt":"2016-11-20T23:36:26","slug":"berry-trifle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hill-kleerup.org\/blog\/margie\/berry-trifle.html","title":{"rendered":"Berry Trifle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Trifles are wonderful because just about anything goes. \u00a0You can \u00a0vary the fruit, custard, and cake and it is all good.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Ingredients:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> 1 pt blueberries<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">1 pt strawberries, hulled, sliced<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">2 pt raspberries<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">1 lemon, juiced<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00bc c sugar<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">1 \u00bd tsp cornstarch<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">1 qt whipping cream<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">1 Tbs sugar<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00bd tsp vanilla<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">1 11 oz jar lemon curd<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">1 pound cake, store bought (could be lemon or plain) sliced \u00bd in thick<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Directions:<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Place berries in large bowl and sprinkle with half of the lemon juice. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Lightly toss.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Combine berries, sugar, cornstarch and remaining lemon juice in saucepan over medium high heat.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Bring to a simmer and cook just until the berries begin to break down and give up their juices, about 3 minutes.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Take the berries off the heat and let cool. The mixture should thicken as it cools.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">In a clean bowl, whip the cream with the sugar and vanilla to soft peaks.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Put the lemon curd into a second bowl. Stir a little of the whipped cream into it.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Then fold in the rest of the cream.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">To assemble, spoon a layer of lemon cream into a large glass bowl.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Add a layer of pound cake, breaking the pieces to fit pushing to the edge so some shows outside the bowl.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Then soak cake with a layer of berries and their juices.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Keep going to make 3 or 4 more layers depending on the size of the bowl. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Finish with a layer of lemon cream. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Cover and refrigerate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Serves: <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">15<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>Source: <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Tyler Florence, Food 911<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 align=\"CENTER\"><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trifles are wonderful because just about anything goes. \u00a0You can \u00a0vary the fruit, custard, and cake and it is all good.
