Navel oranges are sweetened and served with coconut. Many people add miniature<\/em><br \/>\n<em>marshmallows to the salad<\/em>,\u00a0<em> You can stir in some sour cream or Greek yogurt to cut some of the sweet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 large navel oranges<\/li>\n<li>6 Tab confectioners&#8217; sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/3 c coconut (grated, fresh) or 1 can (3 1\/2 oz.) coconut (flaked)<\/li>\n<li>3 Tab orange juice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Peel oranges, being careful to remove all outer white membrane.<\/li>\n<li>Cut oranges crosswise into thin slices, about 1\/8 inch thick.<\/li>\n<li>Layer a third of slices in a serving bowl.<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of the confectioners&#8217; sugar&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>Then with 1\/3 cup coconut and 1 tablespoon orange juice.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the layers two more times.<\/li>\n<li>Refrigerate for 1 hour.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Serves:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a06<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:\u00a0<\/strong>The Spruce Eats<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a classic Southern salad, and this is the basic version.
